56 companies and associations from 13 European countries launched the Europe-wide recycling project “PS Loop” on 6th  and 7th  November in Amsterdam. One of the founding members of the new “Polystyreneloop Cooperative”, a cooperative under Dutch law, is the German industry association “Hartschaum”.

According to the company, “PS Loop” plays a pioneering role in the recycling of insulating materials and makes a significant contribution to a future circular economy. The project is funded by the EU. In autumn 2018, a pilot plant in Terneuzen, the Netherlands, is to be put into operation for the first time, processing around 3,000 tons of polystyrene waste containing HBCD every year. It is based on the so-called Creasolv method, which allows the separation of HBCD and EPS.
