“Our customers can now visualize in virtual reality their individualized kitchen or bathroom project. ”

HOW TO REINVENT WITH DIGITALIZATION?
Published on February 19, 2019

Contrary to popular belief, digitalization for merchant companies, regardless of their size, is not limited to the creation of a product presentation website or the presence on an e-commerce site. It also offers comprehensive and functional solutions to facilitate customers’ shopping journey, improve internal organization and better manage inventory and cash flow. And this is regardless of the sector in which the company evolves, even if it may appear a priori as traditional and little related to new technologies.
Decker-Ries is a family business founded in 1899 in Esch-sur-Alzette in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. Over the generations, Decker-Ries has developed and diversified to the point of having become the largest integrated center of construction and housing in the Greater Region with an area of more than 20,000 m2. Specialized in building materials, tiles and sanitary, carpentry and kitchen, the company has not missed its digital transformation and has even reinvented itself, as explained Laurent Decker, managing partner .

From 3D simulation to social networks

“Faced with a progressive digitization of our businesses, we have taken the lead by integrating a certain number of digital tools. On the organizational level, we now have office servers, sharing files, a computer program management leave and a system of geolocation of our vehicles. At the commercial level, having installed many touch screens in our large showrooms and set up 3D simulation programs for bathrooms and kitchens, we went further by focusing on Virtual Reality. Through an application on their laptop or with VR glasses, our customers can now visualize in virtual reality their individualized project. ”
“We are also very active on social networks. Thus, on our Facebook page where we are followed by more than 2,600 people, we do not just highlight the products of our partners, publish job ads and inform about our various events. We also play a lot on the visual by presenting, with photos, different current trends in tiles and kitchens and bathrooms. ”

An ever-changing sector
“We also attach a lot of importance to the ongoing training of our employees, and mainly our advisors to customers,” continues Laurent Decker. “Construction is a sector in perpetual evolution. New materials and new technologies are constantly being put on the market. We regularly send our advisers to fairs and factories and train to keep them informed of all the latest innovations and to further develop their technical skills. ”
From the beginning, Decker-Ries has participated in the Letzshop adventure, the first shared e-commerce platform open to all merchants in Luxembourg. “After a few months of collaboration, we draw a very positive assessment. Letzshop is an excellent tool for Luxembourgish merchants by allowing them to gather around a common project and thus increase their visibility. For us, this platform is not only a beautiful digital showcase for our company but also allows us to take our first steps in the world of online commerce. ”
The company does not intend to stop in such a good way. “We are well aware that our environment will become more and more digital at all levels. This is why we are already considering new digital tools that would allow us to further expand the services offered to our customers. ”
